Background Information:

Rights Licensing helps maximise the profitability of Pearson owned intellectual property. Pearson’s Global Rights Licensing team works with content partners around the world to license our content in many and diverse markets.

Purpose:

We are looking for an individual who is excited by the challenge of licensing both print and digital content.

As our Associate Rights Licensing Manager, you will report to the VP of Global Rights Licensing. The main focus of the role is to drive the licensing of Pearson owned content to Pearson and to third party partners globally, ensuring maximum value for our content. The focus is on Schools/K12 opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Achieve territory budget - meeting and exceeding annual targets and monitoring progress regularly, updating management, team and internal colleagues as appropriate

  • Marketing communication with customers. Keeping partners informed about new titles/opportunities

  • Checking rights availability, granting options and sending review copies to customers

  • Preparing and negotiating agreements from standard templates

  • Maintaining and updating the Rights licensing database

  • Maintaining market awareness to evaluate potential for licensing by identifying suitable partners for promotion and sales of rights

  • Processing requests to use Pearson owned copyright materials. Determine acceptability of use and appropriate fee. Including raising invoices and chasing payment.

  • Selling and negotiating licenses - including foreign rights - to customers for major deals with high revenue potential

  • Sending relevant materials to licensees, for example electronic files

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proven sales and negotiation skills, ideally in a Rights Licensing context

  • Proven problem solving skills with demonstrated critical thinking skills - analytical, logical, data driven

  • Ability to plan time effectively and prioritise tasks - strong organisational skills

  • Ability to work both in a team and on their own

  • Demonstrate attention to detail

Desirable

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent (beneficial but not essential)

  • Experience of Rights Licensing

  • Experience working with intellectual property

  • Financial reporting awareness and ability to monitor income

  • Knowledge of copyright law

  • Rights training (e.g. Selling Rights course)
